History of the
Chandler Windmill
The Chandler windmill traces its beginning back at least as far as the 1880's.  The Chandler Pump Company manufactured pumps and distributed water supply equipment from its headquarters in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, for over a half a century.  Its general catalogue represents treasure troves of information and illustrations of water supply goods from past years, much of this material  frequently being used in windmill water systems.  Though the Chandler firm never manufactured windmills, it jobbed windmills and other material made by other companies, and remained listed in industrial trade directories as recently as 1911 as a source of wind powered equipment.

As the years passed, the Chandler Pump Company also became known as manufacturer of home and  commercial heating furnace, and as a jobber of plumbing fixtures.

In the 1930's its name changed to simply Chandler Company.  In the early 20th Century, the Chandler Pump Company of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, opened a branch house in Kansas City, Missouri, in order better to meet the needs of customers on the central Great Plains.  From its beginning this branch house handled windmills, steel towers, and pumps as key merchandise to meet the needs of its customers.

SPWA Special Note:  This organization knows this mill at Lowe's Market is a Chandler because we have the original tail that came with this windmill.  So far as we know, this is the only one that anyone knows of.
